Programmes of Youth Agrarian Society


1.  Capacity Building on Agriculture Entrepreneurship.
This program aims to provide training to youth in agri-business on entrepreneurship and management skills and how best to administer viable agricultural projects as a means towards attaining sustainable livelihoods and ensure food security for their homes, communities and the nation at large.

2. Research and Policy Advocacy.
This initiative seeks to facilitate the carrying out of research on best policy and practices for sustainable agriculture so as to inform interventions aimed at using agriculture as a means to alleviating poverty among youth in Zimbabwe.  The program also involves pro-poor land rights advocacy .The research results will be documented and work as reference material in lobbying decision and policy makers on how best the youth can be genuinely integrated into the mainstream agrarian initiatives so as to ensure that they are able to attain sustainable livelihoods from agriculture.

3. Sustainable Agriculture Best Practice Education.
The initiative aims to impart knowledge to youth players in the agricultural sector on best practices in sustainable agriculture. The aim is to provide in-depth knowledge for the youth on how best they can utilize agriculture in alleviating poverty and improving food security in their communities and for the nation on a sustainable basis.

 

4. Climate Change Awareness, Adaptation and Mitigation.
This program is designed to facilitate the positive contribution of young people in raising awareness and developing mitigation and adaptation strategies the causes and effects of climate change. Climate change has adversely affected agricultural production, in particular rain-fed production. The program identifies rural communities in Zimbabwe as the main target areas given the adverse impact that climate change.

5.  Human Rights and Gender

The program is aimed at the upholding of Human Rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. The area also mainstreams cross cutting issues on Gender and HIV and AIDS. Key issues involve human rights education and women land rights advocacy which is aimed empowering young women in marginalized communities.

Land Rights & Secure tenure Advocacy
Land governance is a key institution to ensure pro-poor land policies and transparency in land adminstation for the benefit of the poor majority who are in need of land for their housing and other socio economic activities. As an organisation we are involved in activities aimed at enhancing tenure security on urban land, communal land, agricultural land and parks and wildlife land

Nutrition and Herbal gardens
The project objective included:
To  enhance the capacity target communities with the technical know how and skills in managing low input nutrition and herbal gardens to boost food security and nutritional status and increase income generation.The project also focused on creating a platform for the communities to  explore the challenges that they face in their communities that are related to food security and the cross cutting issues such as  HIV and AIDS, gender based violence and economic empowerment and finding ways to address them.

Sustainable Land Management

The project thrust is upon best practice education on land use activities. The initiative aims at increasing the area under sustainable land management, to ensure increased agricultural productivity at the same time fighting deforestation and land degradation. Activities involve training workshops and on field demonstrations.
